Standards Tips

The new 2012 Standards require home owners or residents to repair/replace any portion of wooden fencing that is broken, warped, missing or leaning from its intended position. If replacing portions that are currently stained as approved by the ARC, new wood must be stained the same color. You cannot mix picket sizes, they must all be the same sizes for that particular section of fence. The Villages of Westcreek does not own any of the fences that are located on private property; this includes the brick pillars along the major roads of Westcreek. Homeowners and or residents are also responsible for the removal of any graffiti on their fence. This also includes any fence that backs up to a green space or a drain culvert. The only exception to this policy is the fences along the major thoroughfares within Westcreek and the association will remove this graffiti immediately.

Public Safety Tip

Are your address numbers visible from the street so that they can be easily seen by responding emergency personnel? Our standards do require that all address numbers be visible from the street and are at least three inches in height. They also must contrast with the background to make them more visible. Some of our residents have numbers missing from their address or they are covered by bushes and cannot be read from the street or the driveway. You are also allowed to have the address painted on your curb so that it is easier to see.

Standards Tips

All grass with or without weeds, on the property, is to be maintained at five (5”) inches or less in height. If the grass is cut too low it will not grow properly during our current drought.

Discourage the growth of weeds throughout the entire outside premises of the dwelling including those between the seams in the driveway, walkway, and sidewalk and where the curb and street meet.

Public Safety Tip

If you live in a two story home do you have an escape ladder that you can egress the second story from in the event of a fire and you are not able to use the stair case in your home? If you do a Google search for Fire Escape Ladders you will be able to find several brands for less than $75.00. This inexpensive device could save a life.

Town Hall Meeting

This Thursday, February 2^nd, at 7:00 pm in your Community Center, please come out to meet your County Commissioner, Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez, and representatives from various Bexar County offices.  If you want to find out what is happening with Potranco Road, the bridge expansion project on Military Drive West, and crime and safety status in Westcreek, come to your Town Hall Meeting this Thursday and get the answers.  Participate in your County Government and become better informed on the matters that affect you, your family, and home.

Standards Tips

This is the time of the year when Oak Wilt flourishes, if not treated.Damaged oak trees of any type caused by wind, lightning or pruning, should be treated immediately, while it is fresh, with latex paint or a commercially available tree dressing. Thepurpose is to prevent Oak Wilt (a form of fungus) and any other possible disease from killing the tree and spreading the disease to others.

Weeds are also very prevalent in most yards right now; treat the weeds by the use of weed killer/preventer, chemical or organic and also by pulling them out. Do not cut them first and then treat them with a chemical. The chemical has to be applied to the leaf of the weed in order for it to do any good.

Town Hall Meeting

We are having our next Town Hall Meeting on February 2nd from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in our Community Center.  We are fortunate to have the Honorable Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez, our Bexar County Commissioner be our guest speaker.  Commissioner Rodriguez and members of Bexar County will present an update on the Potranco Road Project, Military Drive West Bridge Expansion Project, and crime statistics in Westcreek and our surrounding area.  The Commissioner and his staff have made themselves available to listen to your concerns and take questions regarding Westcreek and surrounding Bexar County.  We hope you will come out to participate in this excellent opportunity. All are welcome to attend.

Heart Health Seminar

Standards Tips

The new Standards for Architectural Design and Maintenance effective January 1, 2012 are now in effect. The time limitations for trash and recycle containers have been extended in the new VWOA Standards.To comply with the standards, the best location for trash/recyclable containers or other refuse ison the street next to the curb, no earlier than 5 PM the day before the scheduled pickup, and by 9AM the following day, empty containers must be placed out of sight from the street to present an attractive and clean appearance of the property.  It is unlawful to block the pedestrian’s use of sidewalks and driveway aprons with motor vehicles, trash/recyclable containers and any other object. (Refer to Texas Transportation Code, Title 7, Subtitle C., Chapter 545, sub-chapter G., Section 545.302 [2]).

Public Safety Tip

The chrome rims and tires of some vehicles are currently a popular item amongst thieves. We have had several incidents where the rims and tires have been stolen from a Chevrolet Camaro and a Chevrolet Tahoe here in the Villages of Westcreek. The thieves are jacking up the vehicle and using bricks or rock from nearby flower beds when they steal the rims. These thefts are occurring at night during the cover of darkness. The victims were unaware of the theft until they went out to their vehicles the following morning.  Homeowners can leave their front lights on to deter the theft.
